INGREDIENTS:
- 1 karela (bitter gourd)
- 30g Boiled Chickpea
- 1 onion
- 1 green chilli
- 1-inch ginger
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 tbsp coriander leaves
- 1 tbsp besan
- 1 tsp amchur powder/ chaat masala
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp haldi powder
- 1/2 tsp ajwain seeds
- to taste Salt
- ghee for pan-frying
HOW TO MAKE:
Wash the karela thoroughly and grate the outer part well. Transfer the grated karela to a mixer-grinder and form a coarse mixture. Add 1 tsp salt to this mixture and keep aside for 30 minutes.
Finely chop the onions, chillies, ginger, garlic and coriander leaves. Keep them ready in a large mixing bowl.
Later, squeeze out the water from the karela mixture and add the karela to the bowl.
Add the mashed boiled chickpea as well as the spice masalas listed above. Mix the ingredients and then add ajwain seeds and besan. Combine well and taste to adjust salt.
Break off small pieces of the mixture and flatten them to make round patties/ tikkis. Pan-fry them on medium flame until golden brown. Serve karela tikkis hot with green chutney.
